Tuxedo Green Water Angers Residents

“Homeowners Worried About Health Effects”

.

These are photos of the Town of Tuxedo Water Plant. An open pipe feeds directly into the Ramapo River.  The Ramapo River is the watershed for drinking water for Rockland County and Northern New Jersey, directly supplying 250,000 people in New York and New Jersey.

The Federal Environmental Protection Agency and the New York Attorney General’s office identifies the Ramapo Acquifer as one of seven sole source acquifers in New York State Go to this link to write an environmental complaint about Tuxedo Reserve to the New York Attorney General’s office.  As part of a $9 million annual Town budget, the Town spends just $220,000 on a decaying Water Treatment Plant.

The Related Companies will not improve the Water Plant until the 80th house is built. Even if the developer agrees to build a new plant before construction begins, there is no guarantee that construction will ever occur, or that subsequent buyers of the development will build a new Water Plant.

The DEC will not allow existing conditions to continue and will seek a more immediate plan for expansion or upgrade.  The Town has no alternative plan, and is solely dependent on the developer.
